The ADAC IT Service GmbH
Who we are.
The ADAC IT Service GmbH is the central IT service provider for all IT services within the ADAC and plays a major role in the continued success of the ADAC and the technical modernization of the ADAC service portfolio. More than 250 IT specialists work in this exciting environment with state-of-the-art tools to further advance the digitalization of the ADAC.
How we operate.
The ADAC IT Service GmbH focuses on innovative, agile and productive work. Using state-of-the-art technologies, we are working on further developing the digitalization of the entire ADAC. From the conception of business procedures to the implementation of sprints and secure applications. Thanks to the size and diversity of our company, we are able to support customers from a wide range of industries. "Modern Workplace", "Cloud & Infrastructure Services" and "Application Services" are part of our expertise.
Project Overview
Take a look at our current projects at ADAC IT Service GmbH.
Project “VITA”
Our "VITA" (Versicherung ITADAC) program optimizes our IT landscape by introducing a versatile platform that spans multiple sectors of the insurance industry. This includes product development and management, contract management for our customers and members, as well as claims processing - all under one roof.
Our system landscape has grown over time, with many systems running on different technical platforms, resulting in numerous incompatible interfaces. In order to customize a product, up to 50 interfaces have to be accounted for and programmed! This makes modernization much more difficult and costly. With "VITA", we are replacing about 10 legacy systems by bundling them in the cloud, taking into account the respective insurance sectors.
"For AIS, VITA represents a fundamental change in our approach to IT services at ADAC. This includes the transformation of our IT service delivery model from custom application development to the management of technology platforms. The focus is on the configuration of existing functions, provider management, architecture as well as the integration of standard market solutions into the complete ADAC IT landscape."
Bernd Bahne, CIO ADAC & Managing Director AIS
Project “ADAM 2.0”
The data of our more than 21.5 million members and customers is managed by the current "ADAM" system (for 33 years). Since 2019, the ADAM 2.0 modernization project has been working on the introduction of a cloud-based CRM platform with integrated collection/disbursement, which will culminate in the migration of data in the high three-digit million range - likely to be one of the largest member and customer migrations in Europe. The ultimate goal of the system renewal is to deploy the systems on a cloud basis in order to remain flexible and always benefit from the latest updates.
In order to avoid a big bang, the rollout was carried out step by step in tandem with project development. In addition to contract management and billing, the new CRM system is already facilitating improved service processes and will be further developed into a modern, comprehensive platform for customer support in the coming phases. This will be achieved by focusing on targeted services and improved self-service options for members and customers. In the future, the new platform will be an important hub for networking services and products for all members and customers.
In the near future, after 4 years of expansive work with a highly interdisciplinary team of business and IT specialists (200 project members at peak), we will reach the final go-live. A key ADAC system with about 60 interfaces will have been renewed as part of our ongoing transformation strategy.
IT project managers, mainframe/host to Java developers, process managers, enterprise architects, test managers, test analysts, test automation specialists, network specialists, cloud specialists and service managers are actively involved in this project to ensure that everything is implemented successfully.
Project “Road to HANA”
ADAC is implementing a future-oriented finance and controlling platform based on SAP S/4HANA - the "Road to HANA" project. The goal is to create a modern and efficient technical operating and service model for the coming years. The latest SAP technology will optimize processes and simplify the use of data for corporate management. In addition, it will foster innovation and unlock untapped potentials.
The project, which is set to run until 2027, involves the conversion of more than 160 interfaces. More than 20 ADAC subsidiaries and 2,000 users can look forward to this new technology and its opportunities. We are moving to browser-based Fiori apps and away from the rigid SAP GUI. With the planned transition to the cloud, we are also opening up the possibility of using innovative technologies. The transformation will be supported by the use of process mining.
Project "Modern Workplace"
Starting in July 2023, we implemented a company-wide rolling client hardware replacement process at ADAC, which proactively provides all ADAC employees with the latest, state-of-the-art workplace hardware for our Modern Workplace every three years. This enables us to meet the ever-increasing resource requirements for endpoint security and collaboration services.
In addition, our employees have four different performance needs. For example, our high-performance laptops for developers who need more power to compile software. Or our convertible and detachable devices for managers who wish to be powerful, flexible and mobile.
The Modern Workplace is built around Microsoft 365 technologies. With the introduction of Exchange Online, Teams calls and Sharepoint Online, the cloud has already been fully implemented since 2021. This enables secure access to M365 data from any device, anywhere. As such, we follow Microsoft's E5 roadmap and continue to expand our services.
Furthermore, the Modern Workplace focuses on technologies and systems utilizing AI, e.g. Microsoft CoPilot in BING, digital processes, e.g. DocuSign, and decentralized, collaborative working, e.g. Miro.
Our current task is the implementation of each ADAC department’s requirements by supporting the innovation of existing systems and applications, the optimization of tasks and the improvement of the user experience. The focus lies on the operational excellence of ADAC and its employees.
Our teams work in an agile environment and operate in virtual project groups. We are designing a modern, digital, connected, and intelligent workflow as we continue to develop the Modern Workplace in line with the latest trends. Therefore, we are responsible for the planning, implementation, and support of these comprehensive and diverse workplace solutions.

Interview with Ngoc-Anh Vu
What’s so special about working as an IT Security Manager for ADAC?
What’s so special about working as an IT Security Manager for ADAC?
The fact that the ADAC is so diverse and offers so many different services means that uniform security policies have to be suitable for all areas of service. For example, ADAC insurance has different IT security standards and regulatory requirements than car rental or member services. We have to be able to take individual requirements into account and also adapt to the different risks and threats that can occur in the different service areas. This is something truly special and I really enjoy it.
What motivates you in your daily work?
What motivates you in your daily work?
My main motivation is actually that the company, the ADAC, is secure. No data or information gets lost here. One challenge is to document all the expertise of my colleagues who are retiring. Information doesn't just exist in systems or on paper. It is also in people's heads. Preserving all that knowledge is a challenge and motivates me.
How is the atmosphere in your team?
How is the atmosphere in your team?
Super positive. I really like my team. We can always talk openly with one another. For example, if I have a question or need to talk to someone about an issue to get a second opinion, my team and my manager are always available. My onboarding two years ago - when I had to work from home because of the coronavirus - was also very well organized. We are very familiar with each other here - I feel completely at ease.
Which professions at ADAC are you in touch with?
Which professions at ADAC are you in touch with?
With everyone, actually. Since all employees have access to our functional mailbox. But most requests come from the specialist departments and directly from IT.
What makes ADAC particularly appealing to you as an employer?
What makes ADAC particularly appealing to you as an employer?
I have a dog, so the opportunity for hybrid work - sometimes in the office, sometimes from home - is great. And being able to learn and improve feels great as well. I can easily get a major certificate and thus train myself, but also acquire further qualifications.
What does helping mean for you?
What does helping mean for you?
For me, helping means being there for others in difficult situations. Taking some of the burden off them and giving them the feeling that they are not alone. This creates a sense of community and togetherness. Just like in a club - and that's what the ADAC is.
